The challenge
Coaching jobseekers through the job application process
Placement is a human resources company designed to help with the administrative work of looking for a job: cover letters, resumes, follow-up emails, interviews, profile building and more. “What we do is we basically get in the weeds with somebody and help run their job search,” says Placement CEO Sean Linehan. Placement aims to act like a “talent agent” for jobseekers, connecting them with career coaches to get one-on-one feedback on applications, and guidance on how to improve.
Providing that much-needed feedback requires a Google Docs-style collaborative editor, where coaches and jobseekers can work together on drafting CVs and applications. To give its users the best possible experience, Placement didn’t want to rely on another platform for such a key part of its service.
To kickstart its career coaching platform, Placement needed a rich text editor with:
The collaborative editing features do seem to entice jobseekers. And they like the integrated nature of the platform.
The solution
A fully integrated, collaboration-first editor
Having had experience with CKEditor in the past, the Placement team knew it was the right choice for them. Placement integrated CKEditor 5 into multiple parts of its product.
Most importantly, CKEditor 5 became the backbone of an asynchronous document collaboration space, where career coaches use the Comments and Track Changes features to review and leave feedback on cover letters, CVs, and more. “Instead of having an external document collaboration system like Google Docs, we bring it all in-house thanks to CKEditor,” says Sean.
Placement also integrated CKEditor 5 into its native chat function and job search task manager, in the process making both more fully featured and intuitive. Best of all, the Placement team didn’t need to code their own custom functionality – they simply tweaked the look and feel of CKEditor 5 to suit their branding.

The result
Faster build time and a more collaborative product
Choosing CKEditor brought a range of benefits for Placement. First and foremost, it saved the team from having to build their own collaborative document platform from scratch. That single factor saved the company a lot of time and money during the development stage.
Even better, the response from Placement users has been very positive, with many jobseekers joining the service. “The collaborative editing features do seem to entice jobseekers. And they like the integrated nature of the platform,” says Sean. Looking to the future, Placement is keen to put collaboration at the heart of their offering for many years to come.
